ANIMAL ADVOCACY | PET OWNERSHIP

Easy, resourceful and stimulating games you can make for your dog to improve their overall health.

Canine enrichment is essentially enriching your dog’s life or making it better by adding things to it which promote good physical and mental health. Moreover, it involves providing stimulation that encourages natural behaviors.

Most dogs love sniffing, foraging, chewing, chasing, digging and socializing. (not all dogs like all of these and there are good outlets and contexts for these and not so great ones.) Forms of enrichment can give your dog a job, something to do, so that they are happy and healthy and can enjoy doing things that they were made to do.

Just like us, if we had…

Humility is not about believing you are not important. Humility recognizes that you ARE important, but others and other things are important too.

“Always stay humble and kind.”

-Tim McGraw

The first words I think of when I try to define humility are normally low self-esteem or self-regard. This cultivates the idea that being humble is being meek, lowly, weak or a sense of unworthiness.

But humbleness is not a lack of confidence in yourself or deprecation or even being shy and meek. You can be humble and speak your mind, be confident, take pride in your work and think of yourself positively.

Being humble is recognizing that the world does not revolve around you, having an attitude that is willing to accept…

7 reasons to cultivate and make friendship a priority today.

“Ointment and perfume rejoice the heart: so doth the sweetness of a man’s friend by hearty counsel.”-Proverbs 27:9

Don’t underestimate the healing power of a true friendship.

In life we rely a lot on our families, our jobs, our work, our accomplishments and our personal strengths. But finding a friend that you can call on, day or night, is a gift I believe every human should have. It is a gift to seek out, nurture, build and treasure for a lifetime.

A phone call to a friend can be your strength on a day when nothing seems to go right…

We ALL have hard times at some point in life. Encouragement for anyone struggling with anything.

“There are far, far better things ahead than any we leave behind.”-C.S. Lewis

Hard times can come at you in a variety of ways in life. For some it may be poverty, unemployment, loss of a loved one (human or animal), big life changes, a global pandemic, or even less specific- perhaps a particular phase of life that is difficult for some not-so-direct reason.

Recently I had a funky week. Negative emotions hit me like a semi-truck half-way through the week, and personally, “negative” emotions scare me. I hate feeling anxious about something or down for any prolonged period. And…

Exploring the world of dog allergies

“An allergy is a state of over-reactivity or hypersensitivity of the immune system to a particular substance called an allergen. Most allergens are proteins from plants, insects, animals, or foods. Normally the immune system protects the dog against infection and disease, but with allergies, the immune response can actually be harmful to the body.”-Catherine Barnette, DVM

Allergies can seem simple, but they also can be a very difficult thing to figure out and treat. A lot of times, when you notice an allergic reaction, you may not know what’s happening because symptoms of allergies can be symptoms of so many…

Discovering that my list-making habits were actually making me more stressed

Recently, after a super busy day full of errands, chores, self-care, work, etc. I sat down at my desk to pull out my to-do list and feel that satisfying touch of crossing off an item and instead I felt defeated. There was nothing I could cross off my list. I just spent the whole day doing lots of good, necessary, productive things but I had no satisfaction of mission accomplished on my to-do pad. I felt like I failed the day because I didn’t get any of the things on my list done. …

4 things I didn’t realize were bad as a first time pet owner

Choices and freedom

The freedom a lot of us have in this world to decide what we want to sell, buy, consume and essentially how we want to live our life is a wonderful thing; it is the power of choice and free will. You get to decide if you want to smoke a cigarette, eat a pastry or start a business.

I enjoy this freedom very much most of the time, and at other times I wish someone could make my decisions for me. …

What it is and how YOU can be a part of it?!

“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.”-Nelson Mandela

What does No-Kill 2025 mean?

No-Kill 2025 is a movement by Best Friends Animal Society to put an end to the killing of healthy animals in shelters across the country. According to the ASPCA, (American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals), 1.5 million shelter animals are euthanized every year. Best Friend’s No-Kill 2025 mission is to save every cat and dog in a shelter that can be saved. This means healing and treating animals that can be treated. It also means reducing the number of animals that enter…

Tips and advice for entrepreneurs

My journey to start my own company, specifically a pet sitting business, began out of a frustration to become gainfully employed post-college graduation.

After a year of unsuccessfully looking for jobs, applying for jobs and attending interviews, I grew tired and defeated from the plethora of no’s and sounds of silence from potential employers.

I knew I needed a job and I needed to make money. I began thinking about my options for self-employment and I was naturally drawn to the idea of pet sitting because I worked for a pet sitting company through high school and college summers. …

Perspective | Canine Training

Why I think it’s the best dog training method out there🙂

“The choice before any dog owner is a simple one: do you want your dog to follow you because she wants to or because she’s scared of what will happen to her if she doesn’t?” — Victoria Sitwell, “Train Your Dog Positively”

Navigating a world full of bad advice

Like lots of topics people search for, discovering the “best” advice among so many competing opinions and options can be completely overwhelming. If you walk into your local bookstore to find a book on pet training, there will likely be many options ranging from e-collars to clicker training to off-leash and more. Today’s technology allows you to search…
